The Medical Research Centre (MRC) has donated drugs, medical supplies and equipment worth millions of Leones to the Bo Government Hospital.
Presenting the items at a ceremony held at the hospital critical care unit in Bo, the Director of MRC, Mr. Abdul Jalloh said the donation is meant to assist the Ministry of Health with a focus on reproductive health by complementing government’s efforts in improving the facilities in the maternity theatre, maternity and paediatric wards of the hospital.
Mr. Jalloh said the donation came as a result of a strategic plan developed two years ago together with the Health Ministry reflecting a comprehensive skilled attendance health care service with a view to strengthening referral system.
He reiterated the gesture did not come as a result of the negative propaganda against the hospital, but was made possible through the collaborative effort of the Ministry and his organization before now.
Mr. Jalloh told his audience that similar donations would be extended to the Magburaka Government Hospital and expressed MRC’s continued support to the Ministry, the government and people of Sierra Leone.
Receiving the items, the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mr. Sheku Tejan Koroma lauded MRC for the continued support to the Ministry, describing the gesture as an invaluable treasure that would help improve standards and health care services in the theatre, maternity and children’s wards.
He reiterated Dr. Soccoh Kabia’s relentless efforts to improve the conditions of service of staff, the hospitals and peripheral health units, and government’s commitment to make available quality accessible and affordable health care delivery services for its people nationwide.
Mr. Koroma encouraged staff of the Ministry to continue to exercise patience as their sacrifices would in the near future become a fruitful venture.
The Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kisito Daoh enumerated the good works of the Bo government hospital to the community as well as the numerous assistance the Ministry has been receiving from the Medical Research Centre.
Dr. Daoh expressed appreciation over the gesture and encouraged managers in the hospital to ensure accountability and dedication to service noting that there are many good things in the hospital that are worth acknowledgement.
The Medical Officer In-Charge, Dr. Alimamy Koroma welcomed the assistance and fruitful collaboration with MRC and promised to use the donation resourcefully for the intended purpose.
