Member of Parliament for Constituency 104, Western Area Hon Tunde Lewally has said that he will be pushing forward for the mass use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The MP has just returned from a week long International Conference on the ‘Development of an Equitable Society: The role of African Parliaments’ in Kigali, Rwanda. The conference, according to Hon Tunde Lewally was geared towards the development of an equitable information society and distribution in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals. He also stated that they discussed at the conference how to commit governments to set up ICT targets, increase capacity gearing towards affordable access to information and communication Hon Lewally further said one of the points raised at the conference was the role Parliament could play in achieving the ICT goals, the deployment of internet services throughout the country and an ICT team to work on the policy.
The MP stressed that in achieving that goal, the education of the rural poor should be taken as a priority whilst stating that among his contributions at the conference, he explained the importance of ICT education in modern day technology which will also serve as an improvement in the social and economic status of an individual
