The medical superintendent at the government hospital in Kenema, Dr Philip Koroma, has told the press that the mortality rate has reduced in Kenema city.
Dr Koroma commended the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for supporting the EMOC (Emergency Obstetric Care) project by providing the hospital with drugs and two ambulances. He called on pregnant women to be regular at the hospital or health centres, and warned them against quack doctors and fake drugs now in circulation.
The chief medico disclosed that, “the government hospital is the only suitable place for pregnant women,” pointing out that there were lots of expired and fake drugs in the city. Dr Koroma praised the efforts of the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone for cracking down on expired; substandard and counterfeit drugs.
