The Former Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Solomon Ekuma Berewa on Tuesday 6th July 2019 turned the sod for the Solomon Ekuma Berewa Academy at Mogegba/Mothaim community. It will be a four storied building comprising of over 12 class rooms. Currently there is no school in that part of the country, which is hosting tens of thousands of people, leaving the community children to walk miles away in search for education. According to the Proprietor of the school, Moses Embaba Sesay, having gone through a lot of suffering in his early days in search of knowledge, he doesn’t want other children to go through such a turbulent journey. “The children coming to this school would not pay a cent.”

Moses underscored that he decided to name the school the Solomon Ekuma Berewa Academy, because of the work done by the former Vice President for this country. “For me Pa Berewa is the true father of democracy in our nation” citing that the old man had to accept defeat in a very controversial and tight election. Moses disclosed that he started as an ordinary photographer, and now as a teacher, was supported by the family of the old man and other people, to have a degree, which enabled him to reach such a height. He called on the community’ people to take ownership of the project and appealed to all and sundry for support in order for the project to be completed. According to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education ,Alpha Timbo, Sierra Leone cannot develop without a quality system of education in the country.  “The only way out for our nation is to promote education.” He congratulated the young man for taking such an initiative to build the school in such a community. He however advised the people to work with the proprietor so that the school can be of benefit to them and to the country as a whole. In his statement, the Former Vice President of Sierra Leone Solomon Berewa said “I am very proud for what this young man has done for this country, and also happy to realise that Sierra Leone still have such people.” He furthered that most young men would either use their money to build houses or buy fancy cars, but congratulated Moses for such bold step taken. Berewa said education is the tool, which can uplift any nation and called on Sierra Leone to focus on giving their children quality education so as to uplift the nation. He said he came to know the proprietor of the school, courtesy of his son, who happened to be his friend. “I immediately gave my blessing, when contacted about the name of the school, in relation to my service to the nation.” A resident of the community Musa Dumbuya thanked Moses for such a venture. “This community does not have a school and if every thing goes well, this will be the first school in the community.”
