Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – The defending champions of Sierra Leone’s Women’s Premier League Mogbwemo Queens Football Club are not showing any mercy to their opponents in their journey for a second triumph in the national women’s top-flight.
Team being coached by Adama Paulina Suma picked up a sound 7-0 home victory on their home soil on Sunday against visitors from Kambia Patricia Umu Strikers to extend their lead at the top of the log with 12 points and 15 goals after four matches played so far in the on-going Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League.
It took the host just seven minutes to put themselves in front of the game through Fatmata Turay’s brilliant finish which opened the floodgates for her other teammates.
The host doubled their lead through Salamatu J. Kamara in the 18th minutes before skipper Kadiatu M. Kamara who scored the first goal in this season’s national women’s championship against Ram Kay in their 1-0 win in Bo, and Guinea Bissau born Mariama Sambu both netted a brace each to make it 6-0 for Mogbwemo Queens just in time for forward Wuya Mohai to seal a loud 7-0 win for the defending champions.
Following the heavy win over Patricia Umu Strikers whose defeat saw them slip four places down from 4th to 8th place with four points in the league, Mogbwemo Queens being the only team out of 12 participating teams from all six regions racing for the 2023/24 National Women’s Championship that is yet to concede any goal, no wonder they now sit three points clear above current second place Malema Queens Football Club.
