Some Mobile phone subscribers in the Country have expressed dissatisfaction over the poor network services provided by GSM operators, which they claim is causing them an embarrassment.
Mohamed Sesay a recharge card retailer told Awoko that many of his customers are complaining about the poor network services in receiving voice calls and data from the GSM operators.
He said as retailers of recharge cards they are constrained in doing business because most of their customers request for the electronic voucher system instead of recharge cards which is not normally executed by the GSM operators as requested.
Mohamed said his business has faced serious setback in selling recharge cards and making calls for customers due to the hitch in mobile phone network.
He said the network problem is common among Airtel, AFRICELL and Comium arguing that Sierratel is doing better than other GSM operators on network quality and tariffs but that their subscriber base is very low in the market.
Customers on the other hand told Awoko that the most annoying aspect of the GSM operators is the poor services rendered to receiving and making calls and that SMS text messaging is even worse as it takes hours and sometimes days to get a sent text message from other users.
However the National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM) have also expressed disgust over the poor network services provided by GSM operators and are calling on the operators to improve on mobile services or face fines as a result of the numerous complaints from subscribers.
According to sources the GSM operators are currently working round the clock to improve their services in the country.
