Mixed feedback over Peter Komba’s “Scatter” Cribs International at it again?

By: alusinerehme.wilso@awokonewspaper.sl

Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Peter Komba, one of Sierra Leone’s most followed on TikTok with a record 2.9 million followers and 50.8 million cumulative video likes, is the latest musician in town. His musical bid was confirmed on Friday by his record label Cribs International who took to their official Facebook handle to premier a short clip of Peter’s debut song titled: “Scatter.”

“Cribs International releases a snippet of soon-to-be released single of Peter Komba. The song SCATTER is an amapiano banger that will stay in your mind for ages,” read a statement from Cribs International while unveiling the 38 seconds long teaser of Peter Komba’s new single “Scatter.”

But since Cribs International unveiled the teaser of the famous Sierra Leonean Tiktok star, there has been mixed feedback from Sierra Leoneans over the song, mainly some celebrated musicians including Rap Gee, Morris and Stuntman, among others.

In the wake of these reactions expressed on the internet across various social media platforms, Komba’s new single is gaining massive publicity even though a bulk of the feedbacks about the short version of his soon to be released “Scatter” single, are condemning his management (Cribs International) for a number of things about the song which full version is yet to be publicized.

Some of the views expressed about “Scatter” suggested that the song’s chorus should have been done in Krio by way of promoting the Sierra Leonean culture globally rather than in the English pigeon pattern which many Sierra Leoneans including Musicians Morris and Stuntman and others believed will uphold the Nigerian dominance in the African musical circle.

Others have said Peter should focus on creating his routine TikTok contents or try switching path to modelling instead of accepting Cribs International music deal which they say is “not Peter’s calling.”

At some quarters Peter’s new song title: “Scatter” sounds foreign locally and does not fall within our Krio dictionary. For us, Scatter is more of a remix of his fellow TikTok star and the nation’s most followed on TikTok with 3 million followers and 28.2 million cumulative video likes, Jacob D-Therapist’s famous “Nack” single that remains a global hit, read some comments on Cribs International’s premiering post of Peter’s debut music.

Irrespective of the growing criticism and suggestions from music lovers among other Sierra Leoneans about “Scatter” famed dancehall musician and self styled Street President “Rap Gee” is leading the row of individuals that have commended the debut song teaser of Peter Komba whom he has also inspired by publicizing a photograph of himself and Peter saying: “This Song Get For Be A Hit. Let Nothing Hold You Down Nar So Some Salone People Dem Dae, Dem Slow For Lek. Scatter Issa Dope Tune, Keep Going Peter A. Komba you’re a star.” ARW/12/3/2023
