The deputy minister of Education Youth and Sports, Dr Algassimu Jah who is in charge of sports in the ministry, has praised the Sierra
Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) when they visited him to update him about the team’s performances in both competitions in Nigeria and South Africa respectively. Minister Jah said as a government they were proud of the cricketers’ performances and their behaviour as they had made the banner of Sierra Leone to fly high during the competitions. He noted that for the association to achieve their goal they needed to work as a team for the interest of the cricketers. The president of the association, Beresford Coker, updated the minister about their performances in both competitions. He said they went on the journey to win as good citizens of Sierra Leone, noting that the competition in Nigeria was very stiff as the home team wanted to win at all cost. He mentioned that in Nigeria they came second while in South Africa they came third though they were the favourites.
During the competition in Nigeria Lansana Lamin won the best bowler award, while in South Africa they won four awards as best player of each match with Abubakkar Kamara winning two awards, Ibrahim Sesay and Gabriel Anthony one ward each.
