In a move towards instituting some level of sanity in the country’s health system the Minister of Health and Sanitation; Zainab Bangura over the weekend gave a one month ultimatum to the management of Cottage Hospital to put their Medical records system straight.
Madam Zainab Bangura who made her first visit to the hospital since taking over as Minister some five weeks ago was accompanied by the WHO Country Representative Dr. Alemu Wondimanegeghu.
During her inspection of the different Departments within the Hospital the Minister observed that records that would give track of patient’s medical and surgical history seem to be missing in the operation of the hospital.
She was even more perturbed with the situation in the Antenatal Section when she discovered that there was no single record of patients coming for medical attention and not even the Nurses in charge could give a convincing excuse with regards the situation.
“You cannot operate a hospital without records and you don’t even need a computer for you to keep records” the Minister angrily told the personnel.
She then ordered the Doctor in Charge, Dr. Ibrahim Thorlie to ensure that all records are in place before 22nd February, 2011 or they will see the other side of her which simply means that she will take action against them if they fail to adhere to this one month ultimatum.
