Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a historic move, Mighty Blackpool FC Chairman Rodney Michael and Vice Chairman Theophilus Sho-Cole are set to represent Sierra Leone Premier League Clubs at the inaugural meeting of the African Clubs Association (ACA) scheduled for November 30, 2023, in Cairo. The meeting will convene representatives from 54 African countries, aiming to elect the first Executive and approve new statutes.
The establishment of the ACA, mirroring the European Clubs Association (ECA), is an initiative driven by CAF President Patrice Motsepe. The elected President will also be part of future CAF Executive Committee deliberations, emphasizing the vital role African clubs play in promoting football on the continent.
President Motsepe briefed African Club Chairmen on the ACA’s objectives, including protecting and promoting the interests of African Football Clubs, ensuring their commercial viability, competitiveness, and profitability. Other objectives involve building partnerships with sponsors, advocating for quality stadiums, and developing youth talent.
President Motsepe stated, “The formation of the African Clubs Association will significantly improve communication and cooperation between CAF and African Football Clubs, ensuring a bright future for African Clubs.” BT/20/11/2023
