The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) has commenced a two-day workshop for Physical and Health Education (PHE) Teachers at the National Stadium hostel in Freetown.
The workshop would be followed by the PHE Teachers Council meeting were in all PHE Teachers of Secondary Schools are invited to attend both functions.
Speaking to Awoko Sports about the workshop, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, Unisa Deen Kargbo said that due to the persistent violence at Inter-Secondary Schools sports competition the concern was expressed amongst the rank and file of the Ministry to have this workshop.
He stressed that the new administration has strong regard for youths; and the need to reform the young generation has precipitated this workshop for PHE teachers who would take the message to their various schools in order to put an end to violence in sporting activities in schools.
Kargbo also noted that measures would be taken against Principals, Schools and community members in the event of any violence during sports.
During the two-day workshop, several tropics like causes of violence in schools competitions; measures to minimize violence in schools sports competitions; and the role of the police in Inter Secondary Schools Sports Competitions would be discussed, together with possible solutions for the problem of violence in schools.
