Mercury International has sponsored secondary school Athletics competitions in Bo with a sponsorship of 13 million Leones.
Speaking to Awoko, the coordinator for Mercury International Bo and Kenema Rodney Michael said that Mercury International decided to sponsor the two day athletics school competition that will start today at the Bo Coronation Field as part of their social responsibility.
Rodney stated that six million Leones in cash was given to the organizers for the field field as they are collaborating with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports who are organizing the competition.
He also stated that apart of the money is going for the medals and to the various winners during the competition. The medals will be 288 in numbers with 96 gold, 96 Silver and 96 Bronze. They are expected to arrive today from England and will also be presented to the ministry.
Rodney also mentioned that this is not the first sponsorship made so far by Mercury since their existence in Bo, but they have made lots of donations worth over 80 million Leones.
The last donation to the people of Bo was 600 Mosquito nets. Rodney also mentioned that Mercury International has allocated 1.5 billion for charity this year and out of this, Le500 million as so far has been used to give scholarships to children.
According to Rodney, before the disbursement from this fund, it has to be approved by the chairman of Mercury International who is doing everything possible to make sure that Mercury International achieves its aims and objectives.
