Martin Michael, the Legal Adviser of Mercury International who also doubles as the company Secretary, believes Mercury International has created an impact in the field of sports in the country since they started operation.
He went further that they have made a lot of contributions to the Leone Stars by sponsoring the supporters association of Sierra Leone and the radio station to cover live games from abroad. They also sponsored the live commentary between Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea, which gave Sierra Leoneans the chance to listen to what was going on in Equatorial Guinea.
In addition to sponsoring live games abroad, Michael said, Mercury International also sponsored radio stations to cover home games in Sierra Leone as well.
Michael also mentioned that the company has also sponsored journalists to cover matches outside Sierra Leone on more than two occasions.
He said they decided to sponsor the Leone Stars because they are Sierra Leonean and when given the opportunity, they decided to come on board to support the national team for the good of the country.
Michael also revealed that their support for the moment is limited to the Leone Stars. “We are not involved in the local league yet,” he said. “We can only do that when we that see a good structure has been put in place.”
Michael said Mercury International started last year and they offered two kinds of lotto games: 590, which they do on a daily basis; and they also do football betting, which people tend to win.
He said that they have over 10 million people who are benefiting from Mercury International, one way or the other.
