The anger and hostility that was in Port Loko over the weekend saw members of the All Peoples Congress (APC) hunting for NRM members as they called on the party executive to expel them from the party because they have embarrassed them by taking an injunction not to allow the party’s delegates conference to go ahead as planned. Most of the members Awoko spoke to were very furious and they were all speaking with the same voice calling for their expulsion and saying that if anyone was in Port Loko they would have manhandled them because they are not true APCiers. A senior executive member from Kambia said when party members were being harassed and locked up, what NRM did to help those members, nothing. He said they started the calls for reform which all of them supported and what they wanted was given to them, only for them at the last minute betrayed the cause of the party, embarrassing all of them by taking an injunction especially with an SLPP lawyer who had the influence to get the injunction. Another member in Port Loko said NRM overplayed their importance and ended up being unpopular as they are now seen as traitors who are bent on destroying the party. He said they were well supported when they started the reformation movement, as they had many members across the country who supported them because the reform were needed. But said today they have lost the trust and they should be expelled because if they party continue to keep them they will try to use other means of wrecking more havoc that will not good for the party. A member of the APC media team Mohamed Pope Kamara said he is still in shock as he never believed that NRM will go to court after all what they asked for has been granted. He said they called for so many things including election instead of selection, just as the party was about to convene to adopt the draft they wanted; they surreptitiously went to court and filed in exparte for an injunction.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
Pope Kamara said the leadership of the party will decide what to do as the party will be in court this Friday to get the injunction thrown out and from that point they will decide what to do. Chairman of Koinadugu Momoh Konteh said as a member of NAC they did all NRM asked for and he did not know what else they wanted that lead them to go to court and stop the convention. He said, now that the delegates conference has been cancelled NAC will look into everything and they will come out with the necessary information as to how they will continue to run the party and keep the peace and unity. It could be recalled that the anger of members because of the injunction saw Hon. Mohamed Bangura lynched by members of the party because they accused him of supporting NRM underground and said he was a snitch as they alleged he has been passing information to SLPP and receiving kickbacks. This incident took place on last Friday at Kemoh’s hotel. Also Paul Kamara of For di People newspaper too was kicked and pushed out of the Bai Bureh Hall and he was saved by APC Marshalls. They said he is one of the senior members of the party that have been supporting the NRM and pushing them to disunite the APC. In an interview with chairman of the NRM on Sunday Mohamed Sheridan Kamara, said they have all the information and they intend to call a press conference against Wednesday to unveil their next step. He said the threats of lynching them is not something he is taking seriously because he understands how angry most of the supporters of the party are, but said at the end of the day they will thank them because they will all see the reason why they are taking these actions. “If APC has to win the 2023 elections, the party must be democratized and allow all dissenting views instead of very few controlling us. We have no regret in taking the injunction because we have stopped a sham process that would not only affect the party but the whole country.” Sheridan Kamara said they had no alternative but to find a good lawyer that will give them a win they don’t care whether he is SLPP or not, what they care about is that Gevao is a very good lawyer that gave them what they wanted. He appealed to all NRM members to stay calm as the process is still on and they will definitely win the war they have started.
