The Mayor of the Makeni City Council, His Worship, Moses Sesay has asserted that he will lead the Northern Region Volleyball Team to participate in this year’s Inter-regional Volleyball competition to be held in Bo slated for 15th to17th March this year.
He made this statement last Thursday, in his office in Makeni when the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association, Ahmed Khanou presented a cheque of two million Leones and an assortment of volleyball accessories including volleyball nets, beach volleyball etc.
He described the event as historic and assured that the game and playing of volleyball would be made popular in the whole of the northern region. He also assured of a strong and ‘difficult-to-beat’ northern volleyball team that would be participating in the Bo Volleyball tourney.
The Mayor recalled his volleyball playing days in college with special emphasis on a game in the 1993 inter-college volleyball competition in Bo after which he was crowned as the most valuable player in the competition.
Meanwhile, the SLVA scribe Ahmed Khanou has handed the cheque of Le 2,000,000 (two million Leones) and an assortment of volleyball materials to Mayor Sesay to complete the association’s round of financial and material donations to regional teams as they prepare for the stated regional volleyball competition to be held in Bo
He said the association has hosted at least two beach volleyball competitions and the female team has also traveled to Algeria where they participated in an international competition. He disclosed that because of the very good performance of the female volleyball team, they are now placed 11th position in Africa.
