With the absence of Pipe-borne water, the Bo City Council plans to provide 60 High-quality water wells.
This was disclosed by the Mayor Dr Wusu Sannoh in an exclusive interview with Awoko.
The offer to provide these wells he said was in their rolling developmental plans for the city, which stretches to 2010.
When asked why not pipe borne water but water wells, he said: “The business of pipe-borne water was the number one priority of the council.”
The pipe-borne water distribution by Salwaco to the City of Bo he said was good only from the water source to the city “but after that the distribution network is very very confused and needs serious repair.”
The amount of resources that is required to attack this issue, he said was “way beyond the council’s reach” but that they have been working on this problem “from the point of view of Salwaco.”
He however maintained that whilst they have been doing that “we have been improving those wells which the people have been using.”
Mayor Sannoh stressed on the unavailability of resources, which he said “is a very very serious issue.”
The council he disclosed was only doing this in complementing the work of the Sierra Leone Water Company-SALWACO, as it was stated in the Local Government Act and its attendant statutory instruments.
The Act he said empowers every council to either work with Salwaco or the Ministry of Energy and Power “to bring water to the people at not benefit but cost basis.”
