Speculation is rife within the People Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) that quite a good number of senior officials both external and internally would soon tender their letter of resignation from the party.
According to sources within the party the mass resignation is because of the retrogressive manner the party is heading rather than progress under the leadership of its current leader Charles Francis Margai.
One of the source intimated Awoko that the allegation was clearly evident at the last delegate conference in Kenema, in which top ranking members of the party were absent ciiting Chief Benson Suwu, Arrow J. Bockarie, and Dr. Osaio Kamara as some of the senior members of the party that boycotted the last delegates conference, thus giving rise to the speculations that these top notch members are on their way out.
Speaking to Awoko, in a telephone interview Sylvester Suaray the spokesman for Dauda Tombo Bangura confirmed that “I have also heard the rumours but I could not confirm or deny it.”
He went further to state that “even before the convention, certain people stated that their membership of the party depends on the outcome of the convention,” and being that “Charles Margai retained the leadership of the party through what is deemed as manipulation, people should not be surprised if they hear big names resigning from the party in the coming weeks.”
Suaray, who doubles as scribes of the United Kingdom and Ireland Branch of PMDC, disclosed that another disheartening aspect is the inclusion of some names as founding members of the party, when they were not for the last delegate conference.
