Residents of Kailahun town in Luawa chiefdom in the Kailahun district are now entering more into the Global village of recent times. The township and its environs can now boast of mobile network service and of late can now boast of internet service installed in the township for all and sundry.
In his statement during the launching ceremony of the Internet café service in Kailahun town the Assistant government spokesman and Acting Director of Communication Mohamed Alie Bah disclosed that information and communication are power to the people of this nation. He pointed out that this is the reason why government has taken information and communication as a priority in the alleviation of poverty in the country.
Mr. Bah said the government is serious about the development of the country and that there are plans to put the people of this country closer through the provision of communication apparatus throughout the country.
He thanked the donors especially USAID for complementing government effort and called on the people of Kailahun district to use the Internet facilities judiciously as it exposes everyone to the global village.
Mr. Bah disclosed that plans are on the way for privatizing the SLBS in the next three months and the establishment of TV channels nationwide.
He informed the gathering that government plans to establish internet and information centers in the country so as to give access to every one to know about government activities at all times.
The USAID representative Jenneh Jalloh in her contribution said the Internet café would help not only the people of Kailahun town but also the women folks of Kailahun district to embrace peace and development in the district.
In her contribution the MAWOPNET representative Hannah Garrick told her audience that the head office of her organization facilitated the project in Kailahun district and that the café will help the women to communicate worldwide thereby improving themselves.
Blessing the project the paramount chief of Luawa chiefdom PC Mohamed Kailondo Sama Banya IV prayed and blessed the project saying that it will continue to serve generation upon generation in the district, saying that as traditional rulers they are ready to support the project at all times.
He said the Internet facilities will change the world and also emphasized that information is power to the people.
The chiefdom speaker of Luawa chiefdom chief Lamin Gobeh while cutting the tape appealed to the MAWOPNET members to take good care of the facilities and thanked them for making their dream a reality. Saying that as chiefdom authorities they have to set their eyes on the café which is aimed at sharing information among members.
Councilor Fatmata Sannoh of Kailahun district council extended appreciation and gratitude to the donors for the gesture and pleaded to the government for a speedy rehabilitation of the Kailahun Kenema and Koindu roads which she says is the major obstacle felt in the Kailahun district.
