The leader of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) Francis Charles Margai while addressing hundreds of his party supporters at the party regional headquarter along Dama road in Kenema has told them that the PMDC removed the SLPP because of the repression and suppression on the people of this nation.
Mr. Margai said they as a group decided to support the APC because they had wanted to put an end to tribalism in this country, but added that he regrets to inform his audience that they have not achieved their second goal.
It seems that it is now that tribalism has raised its ugly head in our society he said pointed out that if you did not come from the North you have no credentials for any position.
He appealed to all to think of the nation and put an end to tribalism, because if we did not do so, with all the resources we have in this country there will be no development in the country.
He promised to talk to the President His Excellency the President Ernest Bai Koroma about the issue of tribalism saying that some ministers are preaching it openly.
He said in certain areas citing Kailahun, as an example that people do not believe that there is a change of government.
He said he was in Kenema for three main reasons which are to meet with his people to rub shoulders together, to talk to all party supporters about the state of the party (PMDC) nationwide and to give guidance to those who want to contest for the local council elections.
Mr. Margai said he will not leave the local council elections in the hands of those contesting but will join them to visit every ward within the country in order to tell the people why they are to vote in the PMDC councilors in order to move the country ahead.
He called on his supporters to go back into their wards and campaign in May, June and July for PMDC councilors, saying that PMDC is ready to take over the mantle of leadership.
He said undoubtedly the SLPP failed the nation and it is because of the determination of PMDC that is why the SLPP is not leading the state today, stating that it is the PMDC that removed the SLPP but not the APC.
He said that he is praying to God for APC to succeed because he had earlier told them that the current APC was different but everybody is saying that they are moving at a snail’s pace which is too slow for comfort.
Mr. Margai cautioned the APC to perform for the nation because PMDC is waiting at the door step to take over the mantle of leadership, and when that happen he said he will announce his ministers on the day he receives power and they would start to work with honesty.
He said PMDC have enough resources and if the APC calls on them they are ready to assist at all time.
