The challenge of the report by the PMDC leader Charles Margai of the Parliamentary Select Committee that investigated allegations made by the Lands Minister against two MPs has been described by the SLPP Minority Whip Hon. Komba Koedoyoma as regrettable.
In an interview with Awoko yesterday at Parliament he said he was disappointed as he thought the PMDC leader should have known that it was not the Minister of Lands Dr. Dennis Sandy that was accused but that it was him that accused some Members of Parliament of illegally selling State Lands.
“It was in fact within the mandate of Parliament as an arm of the governance system to undertake the task of finding out what was really correct about that accusation. And for him to have come out to lambaste Parliament in the manner in which he did was most regrettable”
The Minority Whip also stated that based on the perception that people have about Charles Margai as one of the legal luminaries to have said all what he said about the report, he said he felt pity for the country in terms of people who claim to be prominent lawyers misleading the country about issues concerning the State.
Charles Margai came out last week to ridicule the report of the Parliamentary Select Committee that investigated allegations made by the Lands Minister against Hon. Eddie Turay and Hon. Dauda Dumbuya calling it as biased.
The report had disproved the Lands Minister’s allegations against the two MPs as it described the allegation as baseless and unfounded.
The report even went further to recommend that Dr. Dennis Sandy should openly apologize to MPs at the Well of Parliament. Charles Margai said it was far fetched for his PMDC Minister to apologize.
Hon. Komba Koedoyoma however told Awoko that he would not want to preempt the actions of Parliament against the Lands Minister since they were on recess.] By Ishmael Bayoh
