As a way of reviving the Marampa football team in Lunsar the new chairman of the team Idrissa Kamara who is also the executive Director of the standard chartered bank in Freetown over the weekend joined members of that community to play the match at the Lunsar town field. The match started with the female football team in Lunsar known as the ‘Marampa starlet’ which ended up in a goal less draw. The match was more of a training draw which lasted for 30 minute with no victor.
Similarly, the final tournament which was played among the male team ‘Marampa Star’ was fully participatory with all the dignitaries including the Paramount Chief Bai Koblo Queen II and Hon. A.O Daramy of constituency 50 and others were in attendance.
The team was divided into ‘Safer side’ and ‘old town’ but after a tireless efforts by both teams, the number 15 of ‘old town team’ one Mohamed Benguema scored in the first half against their opponent ‘safer side.’
The chairman of the team briefly played for both the ‘old town team’ and the ‘safer side’ as a way of demonstrating his leadership skills in fostering social unity among the players in that community.
At the end of the match the chairman of Marampa stars Idrissa Kamara was over whelmed by the cooperation of the community especially the London mining company whom he said secured the trophy and disbursed Le 800,000 cash prize for the winners.
He confirmed that the company has already issued Le 2 million cheque to establish an account for the Marampa Stars. The old Edwardian team Manager present delight over the performance of players of Marampa, to this he pledged Le 1 million Leones towards the promotion of Marampa Stars.
He expressed strong determination to take the Marampa Stars to division II at national level adding that plans were underway to partnership with old Edwardian so as to improve on each other, he however concluded that the management of the team would be handled by the technical team. The Hon. Member representing the Marampa community A.O. Daramy expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Idrissa Kamara for reviving football team in Lunsar, pointing out that football had been backward in that community he therefore called on all the indigenes of that community to emulate the good work of Mr. Idrissa Kamara in motivating the youths
