Former Parliamentarian who represented the Sierra Leones People Party in the House of Representative Hon. Manso A. Dumbuya has on Tuesday 10th February 2009 declared his candidature for the chairmanship of the party for the Western Region.
The declaration ceremony was held at Lamina Sankoh street Freetown. The National Delegate conference is scheduled to be held in Kenema from the 6th to 7th March, 2009.
Speaking in a jam-packed hall Mr. Manso Dumbuya told party members that the position for which he is aspiring is one that requires a committed, trustworthy, dynamic and fearless personality that has the capability to take the party to the grassroot populace.
He also mentioned that as an opposition party they need a leader that will preach the right message that will win the support of their opponents.
The veteran politician who joined the party in 1961 pointed out that in less than one year and six months the APC led government has become very unpopular all over the country while his party the SLPP is becoming popular every day. He vowed to put mechanisms in place that will catapult the party to victory come 2012. Mr. Dumbuya also stated that the SLPP has now become more attracted to its critics who were opposed to all the good things they did for the country. He called on all party members to recognize their past leaders as heroes adding that the past leaders have done so much for the party and the country for which they must be praised.
Ten others also declared their intentions for various positions within the party. Hon. Elizabeth Lavali declared her intention to maintain the position of national women’s leader while Isatu Jabbie aka IJ also declared interest in the same position. Alhaji B Koroma aspired for the position of the national Secretary General while Abubakarr Sesay, Ibrahim Mansaray and Mohamed A Sheriff were all attracted by the Young Generation leadership position.
