Alex Steven who was charged with one count of allegedly obtaining goods by false pretences was yesterday sentenced to 18 month imprisonment by the presiding Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of court No. 3.
According to the witness, Fatmata Kamara who is an employee at the Camlet Restaurant the accused entered the restaurant and requested some goods on 28th May, 2009.
The witness testified that the accused asked for 2 plates of rice, 14 pints of Stout, 2 long cups Carlsberg, and Becks Beer to the total value of Le 85,000 which he used to entertain other customers.
Fatmata explained that when the accused had finished eating she asked him for the money and the accused said he did not have money and that she should follow him ) to the bank for her money.
“I followed him; he hired a taxi and told the driver that he would have to accompany to the bank for his money but the taxi driver refused and immediately dropped us” the witness said.
Fatmata said she was very patient with the accused until they arrive at a house, at Siaka Steven Street. Upon their arrival she explained to his uncle who refused to pay as the accused was fond of doing that. It was also said in court that the accused is a wanted person by the police for changing fake dollars.
The Magistrate said whilst serving his sentence he will be allowed to attend his other matters.
