Janya Gibriel from Bo town appeared before the presiding magistrate Komba Kamanda at the magistrate court in Kenema on Friday and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. According to the prosecutor Inspector Patrick S.B.Smart the accused on Tuesday 10th March 2009 at the Mano junction police checkpoint along the Kenema – Tongo field highway was found in possession of six (6) packets of shot gun cartridges without lawful authority. He was then arrested and brought to the Kenema police division where he was charged with the offence of unlawful possession of ammunition contrary to section 19 (1) of the arms and ammunition Act of 14 of 1955 as repealed and replaced by section 1 of Act no. 16 of 1972. He was then found guilty of the offence and was sentenced to six months imprisonment or to pay the sum of one million Leones.
