The Criminal Investigation Department at Kenema police division is currently investigation a case involving the sum of six million one hundred and ninety five thousand leones (Le 6,195,000/00)
According to the complainant prominent businessman and owner of the only supermarket in Daru – Osman Shaw of 17 Okonkwo street in Daru sometime last year he received the accused in his shop at Daru who named his self as Alusine.
This man (Alusine) he said was brought to me by one teacher Koroma of the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) primary school in Daru and a contractor one Foday Fifor, who told me that the said man Alusine is looking for a contractor and a store where he will store his 1,600 bags of cements for the construction of his private club and guesthouse in Daru town.
Mr. Shaw said he then opened his empty store with a room attached to it for inspection, and they both bargained and agreed on the rent as one million five hundred thousand leones for six months.
Alusine he said then disclosed an invoice to Mr. Shaw containing the said quantity of cement. Mr. Shaw then disclosed to Shaw that he is in business with his uncle who was the then Minister of Education Science and Technology Dr. Alpha Wurie.
Alusine then took a phone and spoke to his uncle and explained to him how he had gone ahead with their business arrangement, and then gave the phone to Mr. Shaw to talk with his uncle Dr. Alpha Wurie to confirm his statement, which he did. Dr. Wurie pleaded with Mr. Shaw to add the duration of the store to nine months and they will be transporting the cement to Daru soon in segments.
Dr. Wurie reportedly further disclosed to Alusine that the said project cost 85 million leones and the money will soon be available in his account after they have audited him in his office as former minister within a week time because of the state of emergency in the country at that time and because of the change of government, and he will soon join Alusine in Daru to see how far the arrangement is progressing.
Dr. Wurie further promised Mr. Shaw that he would be taking care of their store from the work kick off. The alleged Dr. Wurie further went on and requested Mr. Shaw to help him get some contractors immediately for his work that is to start soon. Shaw then called Kenema and requested for some contractors to join him in Daru in which six of them (mason) made themselves available in Daru for the big work.
Alusine then went to the land owing families in Daru for six town lot of land which he promised to pay more if the particular place he has spotted will be allocated to him. Pointing to a vast land owned by someone before. But because of the amount of money involved the land owing family and the chiefs resolved to give the said land to the Mr. Alusine and then push the original owner of the land to another location, Mr. Alusine from that point gave three hundred thousands leones for labour force who then opted to clear the stumps from the land and then promised to pay for the land soonest, he allowed his uncle the alleged Dr. Alpha Wurie to talk to the land owing family. Clearing has been progressing on the said land.
The alleged Dr. Alpha Wurie later requested two million leones from Mr. Shaw for his workers in Tongo field and that the money to be given to Alusine and Mr. Shaw to take note of any money he give to Alusine on behalf of their business or for any transaction because all the money will be refunded to him very shortly together with his store bill. Shaw went out and first gave one million leones and later another one million leones.
Alusine then took his motorbike went out of Daru and later came back in the evening.
This time with a woman and two kids, which he introduced as his, wife but she is a student at IPAM in Freetown. Two days after he requested five hundred thousand Leones from Alusine for his wife to return to College and the said money must be added to their bill. Mr. Shaw gave the money and Alusine then hired another bike to take his family to Kenema. Alusine went to accompany his family but in the evening he returned again with another woman this time introducing her to Mr. Shaw as his girl friend but Mr. Shaw should keep the relationship secret for his wife not to know about it. The girl friend also took another two days in Daru and when she was returning she took some money again from Mr. Shaw again to be added to their bill.
During the Presidential and Parliamentary campaigning time when the former Presidential candidate Francis Charles Margai and entourage encountered some problems on their way to Daru, Alusine then met Mr. Shaw and told him that they have brought in about three hundred bags of bulgur but it has been seized by Mr. Margai’s men at Hangha town but that he has contacted his uncle Dr. Alpha Wurie in Freetown to intervene.
He then requested Mr. Shaw to pay for it so that he can go there together with Mr. Shaw’s wife to bring it to Daru. Mr. Shaw took some money but this time gave it to his wife and together with one of the masons that have been called by Mr. Shaw from Kenema to work in the project, moved together with Mr.Alusine to Mano junction to see the store where the things are stored.
Upon arrival at Hangha town he gave ten thousands leones to the mason and told him to wait for him at Hangha town together with Mr. Shaw’s wife, he then took the mobile of the mason with the pretext to continue to communicate with Mr. Shaw from Daru as his own mobile has developed some problem – as he continues to go in search of the storekeeper in Kenema who has the keys to the store.
Alusine was out for the rest of the day but still continued communicating with Mr. Shaw from Daru but Mr. Shaw cannot get in touch with the mason from Hangha town as his phone was off. When he arrived in kenema, he met a friend of Mr. Shaw in Kenema and took four hundred thousand Leones from him and then abandoned the motorbike to him and went away.
The teacher who brought him in search of a store later told Mr. Shaw in Daru that Alusine was a criminal. Mr. Shaw who could not believe his ears first told the teacher that he is going to be the first person to jail for his money. He then took his motorbike to Kenema without tracing Alusine.
Mr. Shaw explained to the police that he bought two goats and cooked one for Dr. Wurie and his entourage when he promised to visit Daru to see the progress of the work, he did not come and rescheduled the date of his visit; this time he bought a cartoon of fish from Kenema and cooked it and also he did not surface, but told Mr. Shaw to add the expenditure to the previous bill which he promised to give Mr. Shaw soonest.
Luck ran out for Alusine and his college wife on Saturday July 19, 2008 after nine months when Mr. Shaw spotted the college wife in Freetown at Sackville street junction and continued to trace her until he knew her residence in Freetown.
Wasting no time he contacted the police who is dealing with matter in Kenema by phone for advice and the police told him to contact the police in Freetown and explain himself which he did.
As the police personnel went to the residence to apprehend the woman, fortunately for Mr. Shaw they met the woman laundering and before talking to her he spotted Alusine coming from the parlour, he informed the police about him. The police then handcuffed both of them and took them to the police headquarters in Freetown who then gave them an escort to Kenema police division.
The woman whose name is Fatmata Musa at Dollar house at Tender hill is a former student of IPAM with admission number 789974 at the Accounting department.
The man claimed that his name was Mohamed Bundu not Alusine of 5 Hagan street in Freetown.
The Regional crime officer Samuel Sanie Sesay is investigating the matter.
