Magistrate Hannah Bonnie at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Pademba Road on Monday 10th August 2020 granted Le50 million bail to Desmond English after he was arraigned for alleged financial impropriety. Police alleged that English, on diverse dates between October 2018 and March 2019 at No.49B Byrne Lane off Aberdeen Ferry Road, Freetown, conspired with persons unknown to commit a crime, to wit, obtaining money by false pretences. Police further alleged that the accused on diverse dates between October 2018 and March 2019 at same address, obtained Le49,125,000 million from the Human Resource Manager, of a mining company (name withheld), Idrissa Kamara by pretending he had land for sale, which he knew to be false.
Consequently, the accused is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 32 of the Larceny Act 1916. Police Inspector I.G Fofana prosecuted the matter. Magistrate Hannah Bonnie granted Le50 million bail to the accused plus two sureties in like sum to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to 27th August 2020.
