The Bombali District Council chairman, councillor Eric Dura Sesay, has assured angry processing youths of Makeni that he will bring “tough guys” from Biriwa chiefdom to handle the widespread ‘witch gunning’ (FANGAY) which seems to be permeating the city of Makeni.
Councillor Sesay, who was addressing over 200 frustrated youths, who had gathered at the paramount chief’s resident to make position statement, also disclosed that the strategy of the “tough guys” would be a top secret.
In his statement the chairman of the Makeni Union of Youth Groups, Abdul Sembu Koroma, called on PC Kasangha to take immediate action failing of which the youths would not contribute to a single development programme in Makeni.
He also called on the chief to summon an emergency meeting of all traditional leaders in his chiefdom so as to save the lives of promising youths in the city.
The mayor of Makeni, Alhaji Andrew Bakarr Kanu, pledged his support to the protesting youths and warned ‘witch gunners’ to surrender themselves.
Addressing the demonstrating youths, PC Kasangha pledged to summon an executive meeting to address the FANGAY issue immediately.
He described the demonstration as one that had placed Makeni on the map for being a democratic city.
“Today’s peaceful demonstration is as a result of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Abdul Sorinka Kargbo. Until his death Sisquo as he was commonly known was an executive member of ALL FRIENDS PRODUCTION, doing HTC secondary, Year 1 at the Northern Polytechnic in Makeni,” he noted.
Other speakers included those from the drivers’ union and bike renters’ representatives in Makeni.
Seven days of fasting and prayers have been declared by the youths to weed out the ‘gunners’ in the city.
