The Presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio over the weekend informed observers, party supporters and sympathizers in Bombali district, that the welcome he received in the district has demonstrated that the people are in dire need of a change.
He made this statement during the party’s second day out of the three days of allocated campaign date in the district, on Sunday 4th November 2012.
Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio informed the people that the reception he received from supporters in the district, have sent a very strong message that the days of President Koroma are numbered at State House. He went to state that; ”When I went to Bo, Kenema, Bonthe, Kambia, and here in Bombali, the message and voice from the electorates indicated that, they will no longer accommodate the Ernest Koroma-led APC government,” he stated.
The SLPP Presidential candidate highlighted certain areas, he said, were not well-addressed by the APC government, which according to him were indications of discrepancy by President Koroma.
He said areas like; Education, the Economy, Health, Sanitation, mining lease agreements which were not in favour of citizens, unemployment’s among others.
Maada Bio, while commenting on Education said, before President Koroma came to power, students were doing well in public examinations but with his intervention, they are doing worse than even in the history of the country’s education sector.
He said students were unable to pass external exams because the teachers also were not well and timely paid, thereby demonstrating the non-relevant and seriousness, the APC government attaches to education.
On the economy, Maada Bio said prices of food and other commodities are sky- rocketing on a daily basis, which he said, were as a result of the Government’s inept and greedy attitude to address prices in the country. He said that when President Koroma came to power, he promised the people of Sierra Leone that, his government will transform the country to look like Singapore, which according to him was the complete opposite.
Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio said if elected, his government will ensure that they remove the ‘SSS 4’ system introduced by the APC government and give free education from classes 1 to SSS 3. He said his government will try hard to ensure they put mechanism in place to give scholarships to girls doing science from Senior Secondary to University level.
Maada Bio admonished his supporters and youths present, to reframe from violence as, he was the father of Democracy and their party also was the founder of the long- lasting peace we are today proud of having.
Maada Bio called on all his supporters in Bombali district to vote solidly for him and all his winning team from councillors, Mayor, honourable to running mate for what he described as ‘The New Direction of Hope, development, solutions to Economy problem,’ among others.
The party running-mate for the forth-coming elections, Dr. Kadi Sesay, thanked his people for demonstrating their appreciation to the Sierra Leone People Party by coming out to welcome them even when it was raining. Dr. Sesay said only the SLPP party is ready to ensure women, youth and children issues are addressed at all level.
Dr. Kadi Sesay said with all the intimidations and used of abusive words on them as women of this country, they will not react and that, they will remain to be more focused in ensuring that they take over the country in a ‘New Direction.’
