In taking action against the Acting General Manager of Guma Valley Water Company on Tuesday for contempt of Parliament, the Majority leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon Edward M. Turay warned Ministers to be careful.
Whilst stressing on the effectiveness and authority of Parliament to those disregarding the importance of Parliament, Hon Edward Turay said apart from the charge of contempt of Parliament on an individual, a criminal charge could also be proffered on the individual.
The majority leader sent a message to every ministry concerned, citing the ministry of Defence he said, “I want to send a message to every ministry concerned, the ministry of Defence and call it what you may, that I am in charge of Government Business and if you are in charge of Government Business that means any ministry that discharges government business is under my function”.
In that case, he went on, Parliament has over sight authority over every ministry in the country but at times when MPs visits ministries to carry out there oversight functions they were not treated honorably by the ministers “If that happens again we will call that minister concerned for questioning” he warned
