Magistrate Alfred Ganda, presiding over the Kailahun District jurisdiction, has become furious over the escape of a convicted criminal from the central prison within the township.
The escaped prisoner has been identified as Amara Swarray who was serving a 36-month imprisonment.
Magistrate Ganda is reported to be a worried man because of his personal safety, and has squarely laid the blame on some warders who may have facilitated the illegal release of the convict.
Speaking to the officer commanding the Kailahun central prison, Edward Findlay, he categorically stated that, “I was away in Freetown when the said prisoner got his illegal exit,” but went on to affirm that, “the matter has been reported to the police and internal investigation is on going.”
The commanding officer further attributed the frequent escape of prisoners to the unavailability of facilities, safe drinking water, transportation and inadequate personnel to protect the inmates.
