On Monday 10th August 2020 Magistrate Kekura of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4 granted accused Marion Sheriff bail after defence counsel pleaded on her behalf as a suckling mother. According to the charge sheet, on 10th November 2020 at Sequeen Drive, off Wilkinson Road Freetown, Marion Sheriff allegedly slapped and seriously wounded complainant Josephine Sogbor, alias Jojo, of Sequeen Drive, off Wilkinson Road Freetown, together with others.
Sheriff was charged with four counts ranging from wounding with intent contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1816, assault contrary to Section 47 of the same Act, conspiracy with aggravation, riotous conduct and causing serious bodily harm. After the incident, complainant Sogbor was taken to the Connaught hospital for treatment where she was in coma for over a week, later regaining consciousness and being active again.
“I actually don’t want to grant her bail, as I knew she will offend the complainant again, as she has been reported many times,” said Magistrate Kekura. Magistrate Kekura advised both parties to be calm, peaceful and maintain the peace by avoiding all forms of confrontation and violence. He laid more emphasis on the accused, and gave her serious warnings before granting her bail.
The matter has been committed to the High Court for further hearing.
