Magistrate convicts Track Driver and Bike Rider for Road Traffic offences

Magistrate Mohamed Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens has convicted two persons for non compliance with Road Traffic regulations on Thursday, 1st December 2011 and Friday, 13th January 2012 at the Kailahun Magistrate Court in Kailahun town.
Foday Mansaray, a driver of DAF truck with Registration No. AAB 465 was before the court charged with the offence of carrying excess passengers contrary to Regulation 70 (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation of 1960.
According to the particulars of offence, Foday Mansaray on Thursday, 1st December 2011 at 11:30pm along the Benduma/Baima main motor road in control of DAF truck AAB 465 did carry excess passengers to wit 25 (instead of 11 being the regulated carrying capacity).
The accused pleaded guilty and ordered by the Magistrate to a fine of Le 450, 000 or a one month jail term.
In another scenario, a bike rider, Mohamed Conteh of Buedu town Kissi Tongi chiefdom in the Kailahun district was on Friday, 13th January 2012 arraigned before Principal Magistrate Mohamed Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens of the Magistrate Court in Kailahun town charged with two counts of riding a motor cycle without a riding license, contrary to Section 72 (2) of the Road Traffic Act No. 5 of 2007 and riding an unlicensed motor cycle contrary to Section 39 (1), Cap 133 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960.
According to the particulars of offence the accused person on Friday, 13th January 2012 at 7:30 hours along the Pendembu/Kailahun main motor road being the rider in control of a Super No.1 motor cycle without a registration number and riding without license respectively.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined Le240, 000 (two hundred and forty thousand Leones) or six months jail term. The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant 4907 Charles M.B. of the Kailahun Police Division.
