Paramount Chief Masakma 111 of Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom and the District Council Chairman Augustine A.R Koroma past weekend conveyed the joy of their subjects to UTB for the opening of a branch in Magburuka.
The newly sworn Paramount Chief said at the opening ceremony that they were crying for a community bank but now their Chiefdom has been blessed with two reputable banks. He assured the Chief Executive Officer of UTB of their patronage for the development of their District and spoke with confidence that with the products of the bank, the lives of the people will be improved.
The District Chairman said what made him happy was because one of their sons had mobilized development for their Chiefdom. He praised the Chief Executive Officer of UTB for the venture and assured him of their fullest support. PC Masakma 111 assured that the District football team, The Golden Dragons will open an account with the bank.
The Board Chairman of UTB, Alhaji Dr. Sheku Tejan Kamara told Kholifa Rowala residents that the bank is not a joking one but one that encourages Sierra Leoneans to get involved in Commerce and one that knocks on the doors of people. He told them that UTB has operated for 15 years with success and they plan to operate mobile banking in areas such as Yele, Magbontor, Masingbi and Bumbuna.
Acting Director of Banking Supervision, Bank of Sierra Leone, Tapsiru Dainkeh praised UTB for opening their eight branches and said because it is purely indigenous, that is the reason for their remarkable banking strategies. He also said some people do not believe in putting their monies in the bank, and the only way to encourage them do that is to take banking to them.
Finance Minister, Dr. Samura Kamara called on the people of Magburuka to show ownership and patronage towards UTB for the development of their chiefdom.
Mr. Sanpha Koroma, the Chief Executive Officer of UTB said he felt like in 2003 when he opened the Yoni Commercial Bank when he was Bank Governor. He thanked all those that have participated towards the building of the bank and boasted that UTB was the second bank that made the highest profit of all banks that presented their accounts to the central bank.
He believed that they have the widest representation with six commercial banks and eight branches.
The Chairman of the occasion the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resource, Bon Wurie said UTB was fastly becoming an example for other banks and that their achievement within the shortest period was remarkable. By Ishmael Bayoh
