It has been a long debate as to the appropriate location of the security check point linking the Western Area to the provincial towns.
Some people are claiming that the present location is not strategic as there is by-pass linking to Songo where people use to escape security.
To get a clear picture of the whole scenario, this reporter went to the location of the checkpoint and conducted interviews with various personalities on the issue.
According to Sergeant 890 Isaac Davies, O.C. and Commander at the Mile 38 Police Post, he has worked for over two years at the said post and that mostly, the problem facing them was that of those who intended doing wrong.
He added that the location of the check point is perfect as he sees no reason why some people want it removed or re-located to another area.
Inspector Mohamed Agama Kamara, Commander at the Mile 38 Magbontoso checkpoint, stated that the location of the checkpoint is ideal, as it used to be the original location of the checkpoint since the late 1960s and as he put it “I believe this is the right place even though some people are saying that there is a by-pass at Songo, but if you use Songo there is another checkpoint there,” Inspector Kamara added.
He disclosed that they are working together with personnel from Dental, Army and General Duty to ensure security at the checkpoint.
Each force will provide two personnel at each entering point of the check point from 8 am to 8 pm, and another group from 8 pm to 8 am to ensure efficiency and safe security. According to Chief Pa Amadu Conteh in the Mile 38 community, so many people have already heard about what is going on in relation to the location of the checkpoint, and all they need now is the truth about the checkpoint.
Sahid Mohammed Sesay, a legal practitioner in the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, stated that if only the security personnel at the checkpoint are supplied with adequate logistics like Vehicles, and office space, they will continue to do good work at the checkpoint.
