The Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) has held an Agricultural training meeting with members of the Lambayama Farmers Association (LFA) and other stakeholders in Kenema district to inform them about the latest development surrounding the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security and how the new agricultural initiative can be translated in the region.
Addressing the meeting the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Lovett Thomas stated that for agriculture to succeed in any nation, the country’s farmers must institute different agricultural approach towards the sector. She also stated that they should try to engage in more practice in their work.
The Deputy Minister disclosed that much can be achieved if the theory of Attitudinal Change is fully implemented by all farmers in the country. He stressed that his government has put modalities in place to ensure that high growth rate in agricultural sector is achieved throughout the country in the interest of all. The District Director of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security in Kenema Dr. Sorie Bangura said much is being put in place by the government in order to enhance government’s food security effort in the nation. Dr. Bangura described the meeting as timely and positive because it will help find answers to some of the questions farmers have been facing in the district. He called on all and sundry especially farmers within the Kenema district to collaborate with the Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security office in the district for a better output of agricultural production.
In his statement the coordinator of Farmers Field School Jack Jalloh said modern days farming operation in Sierra Leone is very enterprising and called on all farmers in the nation to put more effort in agricultural business in order to compete with their counterparts in other African countries. He stated that other sectors can fail but agriculture does not fail and therefore encouraged all to engage in agriculture.
