Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Magistrate Court No.1 Pademba Road has on Thursday 26th November adjourned the matter between the state and Mohamed Kanu and 30 others.
Lawyer Yusuf Isaac Sesay represented the state while J.M. Jerry was defence counsel. Cross-examining first witness Alusine Bundu, lawyer Jerry asked a variety of questions hoping to get the truth out of him in the preliminary investigation.
Bundu was shown a statement allegedly taken from him at the Lunsar Police Station, to which he only acknowledged the portion that was signed and said he had no idea about the first three pages of the document and how they came about. “I only made one statement at the station and can’t make two statements in one day,” he said, furthering that he won’t answer any questions from the pages he didn’t acknowledge.
Before the cross examination of second prosecution witness, state counsel Sesay appealed for a translator for his witness to understand what’s being said, as he finds it very difficult to make his submissions in Krio. The defence objected saying the state should have thought of that before appealing for a translator.
Magistrate Hannah Bonnie acknowledged the defence’s objection as the witness was not allowed to proceed. The matter was adjourned to 2nd December 2020 at 9:00am. It must be recalled that police is alleging that on 30th April 2020 Mohamed Kanu and 30 others in Lunsar murdered the nephew of PC Koblo Queen II of Lunsar and damaged his property worth over Le1 billion while storming his house.
