The people of Lunsar last weekend in a short interview in their environs told Awoko that they are prepared to do all it takes to protect London Mining from detractors who are bent on seeing the back of the company.
In a short interview with some women coming from a stream after doing their usual laundry, they said they were happy for London Mining because they have brought hope to them.
One of the women named Adama told Awoko that her husband and son are now working for London Mining and she is very happy as their lives have changed.
She said many families in the Lunsar area have gained directly or indirectly since LMC’s operations.
They said since the closure of Delco for the past 35 years no government has done what London Mining is doing for them, so they are appealing to those who want to drive the company away to stop.
Speaking to some Senior Secondary School (SSS) pupils who were returning from extra classes said they were very happy for London Mining who is doing everything possible to make education a reality.
The pupils said some of them have been given scholarships and the mining company has helped rehabilitate their schools.
They said their family members are now employees of LMC and they would not want anybody to cause problems for the company.
In the main town of Lunsar, the reporter met some young men who were with their masquerade (Orjeh) and spoke to them. They said most of them have gained employment at London Mining and they were on night shift that was why they were enjoying themselves at that time.
They warned the NGO’s who are bent on driving London Mining from Sierra Leone that they would not accept it because since the mines was re-opened they have got more opportunities for jobs, better living and hope for the future.
They said they will continue to drive anybody or group that will visit them to condemn all the good things LMC are doing in the town.
At the mining site, workers at the drilling site said they are from Lunsar and they were happy for the employment they got.
They said most of them in the company are from the Lunsar environs and they are grateful for what the company did for them.
London Mining is now under pressure as the number of people looking for employment from the area is increasing daily.
London Mining has empowered many families that are now sending their children to school, others have started small scale business and the livelihood of the inhabitants are changing and they hope that with London Mining they will achieve better things to come.
