The Mayor of the City of Bo, Dr. Wusu Sannoh has disclosed that Local Councils are in serious budgetary constraints.
“The councils are local councils for their own local areas, and so, each council is to spear-head developments in their own areas and look for resources for that purpose,”
He noted that “there are many problems in all our cities, towns and districts,” whilst recognizing that it was the duty of the councils to know what their priorities are and which ones to attend to first “within the budgetary constraints.”
Dr Sannoh disclosed his plans for 2008/9 highlighting ‘street lighting’ as one of the priorities in his developmental plan for Bo City.
“We can if we have the resources start to provide Streetlights in Bo in a graded series even if we cannot light the entire place (given) the power available to us.”
On Education, Dr. Sannoh said the provision of Municipal Schools in every ward was in their list of priorities but again emphasized the budgetary constraints.
For the Health Sector, the Mayor said he has already started and will continue looking out for opportunities to bring health services to different parts of Bo.
Through the Primary Health Care Unit, he explained they had provided one operating centre and were looking forward to providing another within the already detailed budget to complement the existing one.
Coming to Infrastructural Developments, he noted the existence of one market now and the turning of the sod for two more in various parts of the city within the next couple of weeks.
