Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Prince Sualley, the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), has called on all Sierra Leoneans to rally behind Team Sierra Leone as they prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. His remarks came during the presentation of kits to the national team for the prestigious event.
Speaking at the kit presentation ceremony, Sualley emphasized the significance of the kits, which were designed by Sierra Leonean designer Foday Dumbuya in collaboration with Adidas. He described the kits not just as attire but as symbols of the nation’s spirit and determination.
“These kits represent our collective dreams and the fiery passion that drives each athlete to excel,” Sualley stated. He praised Dumbuya for infusing the essence of Sierra Leone into every thread of the designs, noting that they stand as a testament to the country’s creativity and cultural heritage.
“To our athletes, these kits are your armour. Wear them with pride and honour, knowing that you carry the hopes of our nation with you,” Sualley encouraged. He urged the athletes to draw inspiration from the vibrant colours and unique patterns of the kits as they strive for excellence on the global stage.
Sualley also highlighted the unifying power of sports, emphasizing the importance of unity and strength as Team Sierra Leone represents the nation on the Olympic stage.
The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, echoed Sualley’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the Olympic Games and the motivation provided by the kits. She urged the athletes to give their best and emphasized the importance of team concentration and motivation.
Foday Dumbuya, the CEO of Labrum and designer of the kits, expressed gratitude to the NOC and the sports ministry for their support. He emphasized that the kits were designed to showcase Sierra Leone’s cultural heritage and rich history.
“We wanted to create something that reflects our cultural currency and heritage,” Dumbuya explained. “These kits symbolize our nation’s wealth and pride, and I am honoured to have collaborated with Adidas to bring this vision to life.”
Dumbuya assured that the kits would make Team Sierra Leone shine on the international stage and pledged to return in June to finalize the preparations for the Olympic Games. BT/5/5/2024
