Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Sierra Leone National Senior Football Team, Leone Stars, has announced the roster of 21 players set to face Ivory Coast in an international friendly, gearing up for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire will lock horns with the Leone Stars on Saturday, January 6, 2023, at the Laurent Poukou De San Pedro Stadium.
The last encounter between these two teams took place in 2022 during the Africa Cup of Nations, where Sierra Leone staged a dramatic comeback with a late equalizer, securing a 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast.
In preparation for the tournament, the Ivorian Football Federation has revealed that Ivory Coast has invested over $1 billion in infrastructure, including roads, stadiums, hospitals, and other facilities across multiple cities where the competition will be held from January 13 to February 11. The West African nation aims to promote local football development and showcase its capability to host major international sporting events.
