Sierra Leone National team Leone Stars will clash with Nigeria’s Super Eagles today in a football friendly match at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere Lagos Nigeria.
Leone Stars who are camped at the same Eko Hotels with the Super Eagles said the Nigerian team should be ready for a tough match, warning that they are not in Lagos to admire the Mega City but to defeat their hosts the Super Eagles.
Leone Stars striker Mohamed Kabia said that Super Eagles are not a threat to them and this particular friendly match will help the team to prepare for their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger, Republic which will be played in Niamey next month.
Kabia also stated that the friendly match came at the right time to test their readiness for the qualifier. Another Sierra Leone player who made the trip Ayo King who plays for Ports Authority said they are going to the match as an underdog but they are ready to give the Super Eagles a good run for their money.
The rest of the Leone Stars players are expected yesterday for the all important match today and the Leone Stars new coach from Sweden is expected to witness the match to assess some of the players before their match against Niger which he is going to be in charge of next month.
The match is expected to be played at 7pm in the evening Nigerian time and 6pm Sierra Leone time. The match will be shown live on television.
Some of the Leone Stars players that will not play today are AC Milan midfielder, Rodney Strasser, Parma young midfielder, Suleiman Fullah Sesay, Norwegian based midfielder, Alfred ‘Zagallo’ Sankoh and Cyprus based striker, Mustapha ‘Hadji’ Bangura.
Meanwhile, Samuel Barlay and Gibrilla Woobay were both ruled out because they recently signed for top division clubs in Azerbaijan. Finland goalkeeper, Patrick Bantamoi and Partizan Belgrade midfielder, Mohamed ‘Medo’ Kamara were also ruled out. Also today Sierra Leone/s opponent Niger will also battle against Morocco in Rabat as they are also preparing for Leone Stars.
