Sierra Leone national male football team Leone Stars have safely returned home after losing two friendly matches against the Lions of Chinguetti of Mauritania and the Menas of Niger on 9th and 13th October respectively. However, the team’s captain and two officials who unfortunately tested positive of COVID-19 in Niger are being held back for a 14-day quarantine period in Niamey.
The latest reports from Niger indicate that the three are faring well though still being closely monitored. They are expected to retake the test within 72 hours and if the results are negative, they will be allowed to travel. SLFA has made arrangements for the Team Medical Officer Abdul Karim Labay and the Team Manager Christian Dauda to stay behind to ensure the wellbeing of the three as they recover in isolation.
According to the SLFA, “The President, Executive Committee, Management and Staff of SLFA wish our heroes left behind in Niger the best of luck and a speedy recovery as they battle against the world’s common enemy (COVID-19).”
The SLFA said they would also like to inform the general public that they will convene a press conference on Monday 19th October 2020. The specific time and venue will be announced later.
