The National team Leone Stars on Monday received a warm welcome back home from supporters after a goalless draw with Bafana Bafana in South Africa.
The team was received in Lungi by a group of supporters headed by Billal Bah on to the national stadium hostels where they were met by other sports personalities in the country.
During the programme the team manager of Leone Stars Ahmed Sesay who spoke on behalf of the team said that he thanked God that they arrived safely after traveling 19 hours.
He stated that those who supported them have increased the pressure on them to qualify.
He said Bafana Bafana is not an easy squad in terms of preparation “they are the richest, their technical staff alone, their money is our budget for this world and the next world but nevertheless we started to train in a dirty field in Lungi and we were able to achieve our goal.”
There was a certain amount of willingness in the boys because of the small support given by the government he said and if the stakeholders of football are ready to support government nothing will stop us from going to the nation cup in Angola he maintained.
Ahmed Sesay said even when the Bafana Bafana boys drew the match their fans were still cheering them to motivate them for the next matches. He said the only person whom the fans called for his head was the coach because they pay him 200 thousand dollars a month.
Ahmed Sesay stated that when they arrived in South Africa during all the interviews of Coach Ahmed Kanu he told them their game plan which he was able to achieve with the help of God.
He disclosed that their next target is Equatorial Guinea which is not an easy task in the group. They are no push over he warned “but I am assuring you that the way in which the technical team and the players are determined to qualify it is possible we can qualify.
He said everybody deserves the praises – the technical team, the supporters, but the Lion share goes to the team.
Also Rodney Michael who represented the Dream team said that they are proud of the players and they will always be proud of them unfortunately what they are going through is not their own fault but the stakeholders. He begged them to forget and press forward.
He said they who have a vision for the game are coming to take over in few days time and he assured them that they will not only serve the stakeholders but they too the players of any category who are the heroes.
Billal Bah said they have done everything to promote music in this country and that is why they are coming on board to promote football.
He stated that he has always supported Leone Stars but now he has started to give vital contribution to the team. In the first encounter he said he was with the team in Equatorial Guinea representing the music industry sponsored by Comium.
He said he decided to organize this program for the National team from what he learned in Equatorial Guinea – the way they are supporting.
They too came on board to do the same thing to motivate the players and to show them that we appreciate their performance during the match. He said that Leone Stars are hopeful of qualifying in both matches. Bah said that for Leone Stars to win, they are planning to charter a flight for their last game against Nigeria in Lagos.
