Bafana Bafana’s return 2010 World CupAfcon qualifier against Sierra Leone, scheduled for Saturday, June 21, has been moved from Kimberley’s Absa Stadium to Atteridgeville’s Super Stadium.
This decision follows a meeting between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and a delegation from the Northern Cape Sport, Arts and Culture department.
According to a statement released yesterday, SAFA CEO Raymond Hack said the switch is as a result of a request from the Bafana technical team. Hack says it is a challenge to play back to back qualifiers in a month, since the matches involve lots of traveling and they leave little time for players to acclimatize, hence a request by the technical team to switch the match was granted. Hack assured the delegation of SAFA’s policy of taking Bafana matches countrywide, and the Association’s commitment to stage a Bafana match in the Northern Cape in the near future.
SAFA management will meet early next week to discuss the Bafana calendar and a possible match in Kimberley considering the preparations that the City of Kimberly and the Province have embarked on.
