The home based players of the National team Leone Stars started training yesterday at the Football Academy, Kingtom, Freetown ahead of their friendly match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday February 9th 2011 in Nigeria. The match is in preparation for their qualification for the 2012 African Nation’s Cup.
The Technical Team has selected 28 home based players ahead of the match and the team will also include some professional players who will join the team in Nigeria. Some of the professional players contacted have confirmed their willingness to play in the match.
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) decided to invite Leone Stars because of their recent performances against the African Champions, Egypt and South Africa in the qualifying rounds as they were able to hold both teams to a draw.
That is why the technical team is doing everything possible to make sure that they maintain their performances during this friendly match.
Leone Stars are well prepared to revenge against the Super Eagles as during their last qualification they lost to them by four goals to one (4-1) in Abuja.
Some of the home based players that were invited to the training are Alfred Sanu, Ayo King, Desmond Wellington, David Simbo, Salieu Samura, Mohamed Kamara, Ibrahim Tanko Kamara, Gibrilla Fofanah and others.
