A huge quantity of counterfeit drugs, worth about nine million Leones, has been destroyed at Mondema Town in the Gorama Mende Chiefdom, Kenema District in eastern Sierra Leone.
The fake drugs were seized from pharmacies, drug stalls and drug peddlers in Mondema Town and its environs.
Madam Fatmata Gassimu, the team leader of the Pharmaceutical Board in the eastern region, told residents at the Mondema court bari that, “our target is to make sure that the community is free of fake drugs and the health of everyone in this community is our major concern”.
She called on those dealing in drugs to legalize their statuses, and warned that whosoever was caught in such dangerous acts would be dealt with according to the law.
The team leader called on the community people to always visit health centres in their communities so as to discourage the idea of fake doctors whom she described as “dangerous elements in the community”.
A police Sergeant, 9636 Mohamed Fofanah, cautioned everyone to desist from such practices and appealed to members of the community to give them [the police] vital information that would help them deal with defaulters.
