A Fifty bed modern maternity complex in the Koidu Government Hospital has been just been completed to help alleviate the suffering of pregnant women in the Kono District.
District Medical Officer, Dr.David A. Bome disclosed to this press that the Le1.5 billion was donated by an Italian philanthropic actress through UNICEF to build the maternity complex at the hospital.
He said the actress visited the hospital some time last year and was perturbed by the medical facilities she saw in the hospital as their were only four beds for pregnant women in the entire Government hospital to serve a whole District.
The fully electrified Le 1.5 billion maternity complex has an in built garden with beautiful flowers to produce fresh air for the patients. The complex also has a theatre and a labour ward with a solar generated water supply to the building.
In exclusive interview at his office in the Koidu Government Hospital, the District Medical Officer intimated this press that pregnant women can now be admitted in the hospital under a favorable health care as long as they want until they give birth.
Dr. Bome said the construction of such a modern complex within the hospital is a source of pride to the entire Kono Distric. “The facilities in this building cannot be compared to any other government hospital in the provincial areas” the doctor lamented.
Dr. Bome further explained that the Koidu Government hospital is developing at a rapid speed as for the very first time in the history of the district the hospital has got a mortuary with four big freezers that are capable of housing four corpse each.
