On Wednesday 12th August 2020, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Lands, Denis Sandi and the ministry’s Housing Country Planning grabbed Kings Foundation’s ‘Best Ministry’ and ‘Best Minister’ awards for 2020 respectively. Among reasons tendered for the minister and ministry getting the award is the ministry generating Le5 billion from lease/rent payments, survey bills, freehold and construction permits between January and June 2020.
The organisers said the ministry has resolved over 150 land disputes, conducted 2,000 state land interviews for selection of state land applicants, and 1,000 leases for residential and other uses issued to the general public, civil servants and more.
The Lands Ministry said they prepared, implemented and monitored five structural layouts and community planning plans for No.2 River, Mongegba, Grafton, Gloucester Saddle and Mile 13 with 200 plots in each layout. Minister of Lands, Denis Sandi said receiving such an award shows they are doing a great job and there are people from without observing their actions.
He thanked his staff for standing with him throughout the ministry’s challenges, and encouraged them not to give up. AK/14/08/2020
