The Shenge court barray constructed by the Government of Sierra Leone for the Kagboro Chiefdom in the Moyamba District is in a deplorable state as the ceiling has collapsed, toilets water well and benches have broken down or not functioning due to lack of maintenance.;
The court Barray is however still being used for settling of community disputes and hosting social programmes and meetings. Residents however complain that chiefdom authorities do not seem to be interested in its maintenance.
The Town Chief of Shenge Tamba Minah in an interview with our reporter said the deplorable state of the Court Barray is causing serious embarrassment for the people and chiefdom authorities.
He said lack of funds to repair the damaged ceiling at the court Barray has led to its deplorable state adding that it is the responsibility of the Chief and the Council to ensure that funds generated from the Barray are used to maintenance it.
Minah called on the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development to assist in the rehabilitation of the Court Barray because chiefdom authorities lack the capability to do it due to lack of funds.
Residents of Shenge interviewed expressed dismay over the deplorable state of the only Court Barray in the chiefdom and urged stakeholders particularly Councilors to ensure its speedy rehabilitation.
