Paramount Chief James Borbor Ngolo Vonjo of Mongheri Valunya Chiefdom has stated that “Lack of Agricultural in-put is hampering” their agricultural work. The village of Mongheri is known for its production of Rice though on subsistence level, along with Palm Oil, Groundnut and Gold. But since the war and the post war era, the area is yet to pick up again. Speaking to Awoko in an exclusive interview in his home village of Mongheri Paramount Chief Vonjoe maintained that “Agriculture is at its lowest ebb”. The in-puts like machines, viable seeds and Agricultural Officers he said were absent in an Agriculture sensitive nucleus area like his. Though the Government talks of decentralization, PC Prof Vonjoe told Awoko that decentralization in that part of the country “is very horrible” and that in practice there was no decentralization at all. Road Network to that part he summed to be in total horror. This he totaled to be putting “food sufficiency at zero.” The Australian-Asian Institute Advisory Professor explained that if there is to be actualization of Food Sufficiency then something needs to be done about the agricultural centres. “This will bring a surge in food production and thus the issue of food sufficiency becoming a reality.”
